"My body of work tends to focus on two major themes; myth, and monstrosity. My interest in myth is majorly cross-cultural, I want my art to prompt questions as to why we know what we know, and how that knowledge got to us. For me, printmaking offers a way to translate the nebulous nature of the oral tradition to image. I can revisit a subject continuously, making slight variations with the same image just as a story can change from generation to generation and across cultures. My research into myth retellings led me into modern day film and television, and I became interested in how ideals of beauty became so shaped by the glamour of movies. Not only was beauty so regulated, but monstrosity and ugliness was also defined. I am increasingly inspired by societal notions of monstrosity, and reversing roles of flawless beautiful women with monstrous antagonists. Painting is my medium of choice when exploring these themes. After working in more graphic styles with acrylic paint and oils, my most current works are a series of monstrous morphed self portraits in water color. "
